Long Night of Astronomy 2024

16.10.24 | Event

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Long Night of Astronomy will take place throughout Germany. Institutions across the country will open their doors to share their enthusiasm for astronomy and invite you to discover our universe together. The Institute of Astronomy will also be there: anyone interested can join us on the RUBcampus to take a look at the sky.

A varied program awaits visitors: observations of the sun, moon and planets with telescopes are planned from the afternoon into the evening. With a bit of luck, you might even catch a special cosmic spectacle: C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is one of the brightest comets of the last 20 years. Under good weather conditions, it can currently be seen with the naked eye in the evening sky.

In case of bad weather, there is an alternative program with experiments in the campus observatory and observations with the radio telescope.

The Long Night of Astronomy starts at 5 pm and runs until around 10 pm. The meeting point is the Campus Observatory at 5 p.m. or, after sunset, the square in front of the Audimax for comet observations. The campus observatory is marked on on this map marked in red, the meeting point in front of the Audimax in purple. The event is free of charge - all interested parties are cordially invited to come along.
