On Monday, July 08, 2024, at 12:00 c.t., the next date of our Physics Colloquium will take place.
The speaker will be Prof. Luigi Tibaldo (IRAP/Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées, Toulouse) on the topic "OBSERVATIONAL PROBES OF THE MATTER-ANTIMATTER
ASYMMETRY IN THE UNIVERSE".
Fast radio bursts are short-duration, radio transients emitted by so-far unidentified
astrophysical sources. What is well established is that their origins are in distant
galaxies and at least a sub-set of the sources repeat. Significant progress has been
made in the field in the last six years thanks to several new surveys dedicated to
discovering and localizing fast radio bursts. I will give a brief status update of the field
and highlight the work we are doing at the MPIfR with the Effelsberg 100-m radio
telescope to understand repeating fast radio bursts. I will also briefly mention how fast
radio bursts can be used as cosmological probes.
Abstract of the lecture by Prof. Luigi Tibaldo
The introduction will be given by Anna Franckowiak
The faculty cordially invites all interested parties. The event
will take place in lecture hall HNB.
