The Power of Wonder - The New Materialism in Contemporary Art
Matter meets art - in the exhibition of the RUB Institute of Art History in the Museum unter Tage Bochum, six artists take different materials and technologies and amaze visitors.
From the description of the exhibition:
The exhibition Die Kraft des Staunens / The Power of Wonder therefore focuses on those artists and their works in which matter plays an independent role that shapes the work and its environment. Sometimes it is about a heightened awareness of the transformative power of things, elsewhere about their formative function in complex networks and in some cases also about the active agency of matter.
Amazement changes our view of things. The marveller no longer places himself at the top of a pyramid of ordering knowledge and mastery of his environment. He looks at the earth, for example, from the point of view of a meteorite, as Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev suggested for documenta 13. Or, conversely, he looks at his environment with the artist Markus Karstieß With the Eyes of the Earth / Mit den Augen der Erde. In the power of wonder, art, magic and science combine to form a unique structure that becomes visible to a large audience in the exhibition The Power of Wonder.
The exhibition will run until 09 October 2022.
Opening hours:
Wed-Fri: 14-18 h
Sat+Sun: 12-18 h
