Physics colloquium on January 27: QUANTUM PHYSICS IN SCHOOL

20.01.25 | Physics Colloquium, Saturday Morning Physics, Event

On Monday, January 27, 2025, at 12:00 c.t., the next (and last) date of our physics colloquium this winter semester will take place.

Prof. Dr. Philipp Bitzenbauer, Professor of Physics Education at the University of Leipzig, gives a lecture on "QUANTUM PHYSICS IN SCHOOL".

The educational standards for the general university entrance qualification in physics provide for an expansion of the content of quantum physics lessons with a particular focus on conceptual aspects. This requires didactic concepts that are based on the model of didactic reconstruction, both from the specific subject content and from the perspective of the learners. Against this background, physics didactic research has produced numerous studies on learners' mental models in quantum physics. Two cognitive dimensions have proven useful for the theoretical characterization of these mental models:

Gestalt fidelity and functionality fidelity. The presentation will explain to what extent these cognitive dimensions enable a standardized analysis and description of the development of learners' mental models and how concrete recommendations for quantum physics teaching in schools can be derived from them

Abstract of the lecture by Prof. Bitzenbauer

Prof. Dr. Heiko Krabbe will give an introduction to the lecture. Unlike usual, it will be held in German on January 27.

The faculty cordially invites all interested parties. The event will take place in lecture hall HZO 20.
