On February 8, the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy invites you to the next edition of Saturday Morning Physics.
Albert Einstein was a great advocate of the idea that the universe works according to clear principles of cause and effect. His credo: "God does not play dice". In the quantum world, however, the behavior of individual particles appears to be indeterminate in principle. This raises exciting questions: Do particles exist at all if we do not observe them? Such phenomena turn our classical notions of reality and predictability on their head.
Entanglement, for example, is a connection between two particles that works almost like magic: What happens to one particle immediately happens to the other, no matter how far apart they are. Can photons or other particles communicate with each other faster than the speed of light? Prof. Heiko Krabbe and Dr. Marco Seiter explore questions like these together with visitors. In their luggage: their quantum suitcase full of exciting experiments.
Everyone who finds the small and big questions of our universe just as exciting as we do is cordially invited.
When: February 08, 2025, 11 a.m.
Where? St. Paul's Church in the city center of Bochum, Grabenstraße 9
Admission is free. From 10:30, the student council will provide visitors with waffles and coffee.
Saturday Morning Physics takes place in cooperation with the Protestant parish of Bochum on four Saturdays in the winter semester 24/25 in the Pauluskirche. Information on further lectures can be found on the SMP website.
