The German Young Physicists' Tournament (GYPT) is a competition for students from grade 8 onwards, in which challenging experimental problems are to be solved.

Information about the competition and the current 17 problems can be found on the GYPT website. The special thing about the competition is that the students have to present their ideas for solving a problem in a short talk and defend them against other participants, just like at a scientific conference. They take on the role of the presenter and the role of the challenger. Very important: everything happens in English! The debate will be assessed by a jury.

The German Young Physicists' Tournament is a team competition. Three students, each representing a different problem, form a team. So the competition is not only about technical brilliance, but also about teamwork, imagination, courage and competitive spirit or simply the desire to try things out.

The Didactics of Physics at the Ruhr-University Bochum is in cooperation with the MCS Junior Academy Bochum now an official GYPT centre of the German Physical Society.
