Saturday Morning Physics on 13.01.2024: What holds the world together at its core - the structure of our universe

09.01.24 | Saturday Morning Physics, Event

On January 13, 2024, the faculty invites you to Saturday Morning Physics. The speaker is Prof. Dr. Ulrich Wiedner with a lecture on the topic "What holds the world together at its core - the structure of our universe".

From the smallest particles to major discoveries - Saturday Morning Physics offers exciting physics topics for everyone. Lecturers from the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy present topics from various fields of physics in an understandable way. On 13 January 2024, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Wiedner's lecture will focus on the topic "What holds the world together at its core - the structure of our universe":

The structure of the world and the universe is a mystery to most people and yet most people are fascinated by it. Why is this so? It probably has something to do with the fact that the dimensions we are dealing with when we want to explain the fundamental structure are hidden to the naked eye - we are operating in the subatomic world of particle physics. However, it is precisely this world that holds the secrets to understanding our existence. It is the goal of particle physicists to answer the unanswered questions of our existence: What is our universe made of? How did it come into being? How does it work? How does it continue?

We have been very successful in this over the last century and we believe we understand that our universe consists of very few elementary building blocks and 4 fundamental interactions. The aim of this lecture is to open up these insights to a broad audience at an elementary level.

Prof. Ulrich Wiedner

The faculty cordially invites all interested parties to attend the lectures in the Pauluskirche Bochum in the winter semester. Before the lecture there will be fresh waffles and coffee in the community center next to the church. Here you can find all information about the start and location of the lectures:
