In a notable development for particle physics in Germany, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) has become the 100th institute to join the LHCb collaboration at Large Hadron Collider at CERN as of February 2024.

This marks a significant milestone in the collaboration’s expansion, now encompassing 1677 members from 100 institutes across 22 countries. RUB’s entry into the LHCb collaboration symbolizes the continuous efforts and growing global network in the quest to unravel the complexities of the world on fundamental level.
About the RUB-LHCb group
The research group, led by Prof. M. Mikhasenko of Experimental Physics I (NB1), specializes in hadron spectroscopy.
Their focus is on the study of strong interaction of quarks and gluons, exploring exotic multiquark configurations like pentaquarks, tetraquarks, glueballs, and hybrids. The group’s activities are integral to the LHCb collaboration, encompassing the operation of the Scintillating Fiber detector (SciFi), event reconstruction, and data analysis. Currently engaged in preparations for Run-III of the LHCb experiment, they are involved in calibration of the SciFi tracker, research on Monte Carlo generators, and open-science activity. The group is offering a Hadron Physics course in the upcoming summer semester, providing students with an opportunity to delve into particle physics research and inviting young researchers to join the world effort on studies of nature at the smallest scale.
